Basement Storage

Hello, Everybody, This is to ask everyone’s help in respecting the OSYC rule (Rules & Regulations, #13) regarding storing personal items in the clubhouse basement. The following items are permitted. 1. Sails and accompanying spars. 2. Portable air conditioners 3. Other items which are to be contained in one plastic bin no larger than 2’X3’X20″ high. The sails and spars, air conditioners and bins are to be labeled with the owner’s name. Boats, gasoline motors, gas tanks and solvents are not permitted. With specific approval of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, certain personal items such as air compressors, pressure washers or vacuum cleaners may be stored on condition that they may be used by all members. Please assess your own personal items in the basement and take steps as necessary to abide by club policy. Thanks, and I hope you’re having a great Summer, Dick Mueller, Commodore

Low Country Boil Report

We had a feast; 46 of us did. We had a number of member guests and a few potential members. It was a big success. A special thanks go to the Griffins: Ken, Jennifer, and Brandon. They did all the shopping and cooking for the traditional “low country boil” and it was delicious. A lot goes into our club events and a lot of members help out in the process. There are those who prepare appetizers and deserts, those that tidy up the place and set up the tables and chairs before the event, and then there are those who pitch in and clean up the place after the event. Thanks also to those who pitched in.

“Easter Egg” Hunt

The club has an Easter Egg Hunt with a unique twist to it on April 7th. Instead of eggs it will be colored balloons, they will not be hidden in the traditional fashion, but floating around in the lake. The hunters will use their sail boat to retrieve as many as possible. Some of the balloons will contain prizes, some will be worth prizes and other are just for fun. This event is tons of fun for adults and kids alike. There will be very few rules: – cannot use motor – paddling and swimming is allowed – cannot run into other boats (4 balloon penalty) – busted balloons do not count – Handles on nets cannot exceed the length of your boat – Each boat cannot have more than 10 water balloons, and no more than 1 water gun.(These are to deter other boats from getting your intended balloon) If you catch a competitors water balloon the thrower will be penalized two prize balloons. ** Boats that do not want to get wet can fly a orange ribbon, known as the “wimpy flag” There is one serious rule, all children MUST wear a PFD(life preserver). At 6:00 we will have a Hot Grill Dinner. This means the Club will provide paper good, ice and a hot grill. So bring what ever food you would like to cook. Let’s have some FUN.

2012 Spring Meeting

Reminder: This Saturday, March 17th is the annual OSYC Spring Meeting. Weather forecast is Partly Sunny with a high near 82, which looks to be a perfect day for hanging out at the lake, so come on out and help us open up the club for the season, starting with a Spring Cleaning work day in the morning. Look for details by email.

Chili dinner and races this Saturday

The Club Schedule has been posted on the Club web site, please check it out. The first event is set for this coming Saturday. We will kick off the Frostbite race series and then have a Chili Dinner. On Sunday we will have another set of races. We will be done in time for all to get home and watch the Super Bowl. The races will be “around the buoy” races. If I set the course correctly and the wind cooperates, each race should last 30 to 45 min each. Hopefully we can have three races each day. If we have anyone that is new to racing and wants to give it a try, but needs a little coaching, let me know and I can be at the Club before the races for an hour long session. Skipper’s meeting will be at 12 each day with races starting at 1:00. I need a volunteer for Race Committee. On Saturday we will have a Chili Dinner starting around 6:00. I am asking for a few volunteers to each make a batch of chili and bring them to the Club. I will provide the sides we will need. Please RSVP so I know how many volunteers I need to make chili. To RSVP send it to my email, not the Google group. If you can volunteer for chili, race committee or want to meet before the races email me at: Kennifer@windstream.net Ken

2nd Annual OSYC Christmas Party

Saturday December 3, 2011 is our 2nd Annual Christmas Party at OSYC. Social hour will start at 4:00 or so and dinner will be served at 6:00 or so. I will prepare Ham and Turkey for dinner. After dinner, Grayson is organizing another Crazy Gift Swap. We are asking that members bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. Please, please, please RSVP at kennifer@windstream.net if you are coming and if you are bringing a dish. This will let me know how much to cook. After dinner, Grayson will explain the “Crazy Gift Swap”. Each person who wants to participate brings a wrapped gift of up to or about $10 in value. We will draw numbers and the swapping and fun begins. We have children and adults that play, so the field is wide open as to gift ideas. Ken P.S.
