First Annual – First of the Year Racing, Drinking and Spaghetti Eating Bacchanalia Throwdown

Hear Ye, Hear Ye… Due to the fact that I have been drafted, pressed, shanghaied, coerced, etc. into being this years Race Committee Chairman by our Illustrious, and obviously a little deranged, Fearless Leader and Commodore; Ken Griffin, I am pleased to announce the “First Annual – First of the Year Racing, Drinking and Spaghetti Eating Bacchanalia Throwdown Regatta”. (Here-after known as “the Event” cause I ain’t that good a typist!) Weather and wind permitting, this will be a two day event. On Saturday, the 29th of January, we will have a series of short around the buoy’ races. Skippers meeting to be held at 1200 hours (noon) with racing to commence at 1300 hours (1:00 pm), followed immediately by the traditional swearing, screaming, rail-rubbing, laughing, hollering and general mayhem. Upon completion of as many races as we can possibly get in without the Race Committee being lynched, shot or strung up from their own yardarm, the intrepid mariners will retire to the veranda of the OSYC Clubhouse for the traditional “Imbibing of ye Adult Beverages” and ye “Telling of Tall Tales”. This, in turn, will be followed by the First Annual “Cumma Stuffa You Face Widda Summa Wunnuful Pasta”. The timing of this event will be determined by how long it takes to marinate our Fabulous Chef-in-Residence, Mr. Ken Griffin, Esq. in a provocative sauce of diet Sprite and Seagrams VO. Hopefully sometime between 1800 hrs (6:00 pm) and 2200 hrs (10:00 pm). (that’s meant to be funny…we will shoot for dinner at 6:00 pm…right Ken?) Sunday’s racing will be reverse start races, (if I can find someone that can do the math and has the formula…like Bill Lewis or Carl Saylor, HINT, HINT!) over a “to be announced” course. Due to the fact that we do have some civilized, non-heathen members that participate in religious observances, the Skippers Meeting will be held at 1300 hrs (1:00 pm) and racing to commence at 1400 hrs (2:00 pm). This should make it easier for those who might be a little indisposed due to overindulgence of the previous days “Imbibing of ye Adult Beverages” to have some additional sobering time. The drinkin’ and lyin’ will pretty much stay the same. Sadly, there will be no trophies given out due to the exorbitant cost of having the event name engraved. However, I promise to give everyone that finishes a beer! All those who would like to attend, please RSVP via e-mail to Ken Griffin at kennifer@windstream.net On a serious note; if you haven’t participated in racing in the past, please come out and give it a shot. I promise you will have more fun and will learn more about sailing your boat than you think possible. Everyone out there will be more than happy to help you get started, give you pointers, answer any questions, give you more advice that you might possibly want or need and most importantly help you have a really great time. We will be putting together a Racing Schedule as soon as possible so look for it in the next week or so! If you have any suggestions, please send them to me at toezup@bellsouth.net or to Ken Griffin at kennifer@windstream.net Gimp

Christmas Party!

This year we plan to have our first joint Christmas party and cook out on Sat. Dec. 4, 2010. This should be a grand event for all. Hors d’oeuvre s begin at 5 P.M and supper will be served around 6 P.M. Please plan on $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per child for the meal. We will then have a “Crazy Auction” or “Chinese Auction” where everyone who wishes to be a part, brings a wrapped gift, but with no name attached . Please limit the price of the gift to $10.00 or less. We will draw numbers for order of choosing, but, beware, others have 30 seconds to steal your gift and you have to get another and so it goes. Nautical gifts are highly prized, although even toys are welcomed, as we have children and dotting grandparents. Usually cocoa, mugs or scented candles are a dead end. Be creative! Gag gifts are sometimes the life of the party. As OSYC has Halloween, Fourth of July, or nautical decoration only, we ask that anyone who has a Christmas decoration, to please bring it. You can take it home after the party. Commodore Ken will provide the Christmas tree, and maybe lights…hint, hint. Ken also has some powerful heaters to keep us warm if it is cold. Please bring side dishes and desserts: we are always good at that! ********************************************** Jay has set up this site for RSVP. If you have already sent your response, you do not need to do it again, but if you have not it would be a great help to me if you would. “[Christmas Party RSVP page->http://yarp.com/4299de5ec9f6]” at this URL [http://yarp.com/4299de5ec9f6->http://yarp.com/4299de5ec9f6] ********************************************** Also, if you could bring a side dish it would be a great help. I am bring smoked ham and deep fried turkey( if you have never had this you are missing out). Mac and cheese, dressing, beans, greens, dessert, Hors d’oeuvre s..etc would be great. If you could help with this please email me at kennifer@windstream.net Thanks Ken

2010 BEER Cruise report

Click on the [link below->http://osyc.net/cruising/BEER2010Report.htm] for my 2010 BEER Cruise report. In spite of the rain and storms, it was a great trip. We had several cruisers who were on salt water for the first time. If there are some novices at OSYC that would like to go next year, we could have a seminar for first time BEER Cruisers. Its a good first cruise because if you have problems there is someone to help. Anchors dragging is a good example. There is a bunch of folks who do not hesitate to lend a hand. On one cruise, someone blew out a sail. Another boat had a spare and loaned it too him. Another time a rudder broke off and someone brought out an epoxy repair kit and it was ready to go the next morning. This is just a few examples. The cruise is usually scheduled around the first weekend in June. [Full Report and Photos->http://osyc.net/cruising/BEER2010Report.htm]

Kids Day at OSYC

With temperatures near 90 lately, it’s easy to believe – Summer is Here! And summer means that it’s time for Kids Day at OSYC. If you’ve seen the schedule already, you need to look again now, because we swapped the dates around. OSYC Kids Day is now scheduled for June 19. Got it? Put it on your calendar! Now that the date is settled, it’s time for some planning. This is our third annual Kids Day, and they are always a blast. The core activity is a big bunch of kids swimming together at the club, with some row boats, kayaks, sailboats, towables, and other kid-friendly goings on thrown in for good measure. We will grill hotdogs starting at about 4pm to feed the hungry hordes, and then back in the water as late as everyone wants to stay – I think that one year my kids swam until nearly dark. The club provides the dogs and we need volunteers to bring snacks, chips, drinks, and whatever else you think kids might like to eat, munch or graze, plus volunteers to bring or organize games and activities. So if you have (or or planning to have) a kid or grandkid, of if you simply enjoy acting like a kid, plan to be there for some good clean G-rated fun. RSVP to jay@riverside.net if you plan to come or if you can help with logistics (food, games, whatever). The more kids that come, the more fun for all!

Sinclair Open Regatta and Party

This is an Open Regatta and Party – members are encouraged to bring guests to both! {{Saturday}}: Skippers Meeting 12pm, 1st Race, 1pm Hamburgers/Hot Dogs served 6pm – $1 each. Band Starts at 7:30pm, 13 & older are $10 each. {{Sunday}}: 1st Race at 10am.

Cruise to Bone Island Grill at Crooked Creek Marina

Mark your calendars. We have an overnight cruise to Bone Island Grill located at Crooked Creek Marina on Saturday May 15, 2010. The food, night or day, has always been great. Check out the menu at [www.crookedcreekmarina.us->http://www.crookedcreekmarina.us] We “should” leave the club by 1:00pm on Saturday and sail (Jennifer says motor for those with little faith) up the Oconee river channel. The trip is normally 4 to 6 hours depending on the wind of course. Bone Island Grill has great docks and they do not mind us spending the night at no cost. The grill no longer serves breakfast. I am taking a sweet roll or cereal to hold me over until they serve lunch at 11:00am. We will set sail back to the OSYC docks once well fed. This trip has always been a lot of fun with good fellowship and food. You will miss out it you are not there. Ken
